MONTREAL -- A young man is missing after a ferry and a small pleasure craft collided Saturday evening on the Riviere des Prairies just north of Montreal.

Laval police say all nine people aboard the smaller boat fell in the water, and that only eight were pulled out.

They say a 26-year-old man remains missing.

Police, firefighters and the coast guard are searching for him.

The survivors suffered mainly bruises and scratches.

A police spokesman said the pleasure craft was designed to carry only four or five people -- and that none of the nine aboard were wearing lifejackets.
