Canadian restaurant chain Jack Astor’s has made good on its promise to collaborate with the internet sensation behind the potato salad phenomenon on Kickstarter and will be bringing the Columbus, Ohio man to Toronto for a potato salad cook-off.

In an attempt to cash in on what was a runaway story this month, the casual restaurant chain will be throwing a potato salad party in Toronto next week, headlined by Zack ‘Danger’ Brown, the man who was unwittingly thrown into the international spotlight for his modest Kickstarter campaign.

After spending a day learning how to make potato salad with the chain’s executive chef Adrian Whitfield, Brown will head out to Jack Astor’s St. Lawrence Market where he’ll dish out samples to the first 150 people in a taste test.

Brown shot to fame for launching a simple crowdsourced campaign on Kickstarter whose MO read: “Basically I’m just making potato salad. I haven’t decided what kind yet.”

For whatever reason -- its modestly, simplicity, cheekiness -- the project gained the attention of the internet and, up to now, has succeeded in raising more than $53,000.

Its original goal? A humble $10.

The recipe will be served at Brown’s Potato Salad Party in his hometown in Ohio this fall, to cap off the crowdfunding campaign which ends August 2.

The Jack Astor’s event is slated for August 5 from 6 pm to 8 pm.
