The two Mounties injured in Moncton last month are thanking their community for its support following the shooting spree that left three of their colleagues dead.

Const. Eric Dubois and Const. Darlene Goguen were both injured during the June 4 rampage that took the lives of Constables Dave Ross, Douglas Larche and Fabrice Gevaudan.

In statements released Thursday, about seven weeks after the fatal incident, Dubois and Goguen both thanked the people of Moncton.

"I received so much positive energy from all of you through comforting thoughts and notes of well-being that it didn't take long for me to heal from my injuries; this sounds incredible but is the truth," Dubois said.

Goguen also said her recovery has been easier because of the help of the community.

"I wish to express my deepest gratitude for the support, encouragement, generosity, and the many prayers that were received from around the world in the days and weeks that followed," she said. "Without these prayers, the road to recovery would not have been possible."

Following the shootings, thousands of people paid their respect to the victims by writing letters, sending flowers and cards, and participating in a Fathers' Day run in honour of the RCMP officers who died in the line of duty.

Dubois also thanked the Moncton City Hospital for caring for him, and both constables closed their statements by saying that they are proud to be Mounties.

"We are a big family and I appreciate being a part of it," Dubois said. "I am proud to be a member of a great organization such as the RCMP which is built on a tradition to serve the community and all Canadians."

Added Goguen: "My career in the Royal Canadian Mounted Police was a chosen one, and I will continue to pursue it with pride."

Justin Bourque has been charged with three counts of first-degree murder and two counts of attempted murder. He is due to return to court next week following a psychiatric assessment.
