Two girls are shaken up but unharmed after strangers broke into their home in Airdrie, Alta. on Wednesday while their parents were out.
The couple’s 14- and four-year-old daughters were home alone, when they heard a strange man knock at the door at around 3 p.m. in the afternoon. The teen didn’t answer but instead took her sister upstairs.
When they heard glass breaking in the basement, the girls hid in a closet and the teen covered her sister with clothes in a laundry basket.
The men never went upstairs and the kids were unharmed but the experience left a mark on the family, who are fearful of revealing their identity.
The family says they’re missing computers, instruments and sports equipment but they are just glad their daughters are safe.
“For the time I was on the phone with 911 and knowing that our girls were in the closet, that 17 minutes felt like a lifetime. I can't even imagine how terrified they felt. They don't know why those people are there. They don’t know if they're going to come up and hurt them," the stepmother told CTV Calgary.
Police are still looking for three suspects and are asking anyone with video or information to come forward.
Suspects are described as Caucasian male, 6 feet tall. One has been described as having short black hair, clean shaven and with a tattoo on his right arm.
