ABBOTSFORD, B.C. - Human remains found at the Fraser River near Abbotsford, B.C., have been identified as those of a Vancouver man who went missing two and a half years ago.

Police say 44-year-old Barry Hinchcliffe was last seen in Mission in September 2011.

Sgt. Adam MacIntosh of the Integrated Homicide Investigation Unit says neither the cause of death nor information about the remains is being released at this time.

MacIntosh says police have been able to provide a grieving family with some closure as they continue to work on solving Hinchcliffe's homicide.

Eight days after he disappeared, Vancouver police said Hinchcliffe was last seen driving a grey SUV from his home in the Yaletown area and that he may have been headed to Mission.

Police said the extended absence was uncharacteristic for the man who had regular contact with his family.
