HALIFAX -- Halifax police say they have arrested a suspect after reports of a man wearing fatigues and carrying a long gun.

Police spokeswoman Theresa Rath says the man was allegedly carrying what appeared to be several assault rifles, but police have since determined they were pellet guns.

Rath says a man was arrested on a pathway in the area of Westridge Drive after reports from two eyewitnesses.

Police sent multiple units to the area including an emergency response team and a canine unit.

At one point, the public was asked to stay off a pathway between Lacewood Drive and Main Avenue and the area surrounding the Mainland Common.
