A father and daughter have lost nearly all their worldly possessions after their moving truck was stolen in Surrey, B.C.
Family photographs, furniture and urns filled with the ashes of loved ones are amongst the stolen property.
“These personal items are of no value to them, but they mean the world to us,” Michael Suiker told CTV Vancouver.
The family was moving from Saskatoon to Victoria, B.C. to start a new life. They spent the evening with relatives in Surrey and parked their rental U-Haul truck nearby overnight Tuesday. When they awoke Wednesday morning, the truck and an attached trailer with an ATV were gone.
“Everything we own is in the truck and trailer with the exception of a few suitcases,” Suiker said.
Police say that there are no witnesses or security footage that could help in their investigation.
The family is now making a plea to the public to help locate their belongings. A Facebook post by Suiker’s girlfriend asking for help has been shared thousands of times.
Nothing has been recovered yet, but the family says they’ve been overwhelmed by the public response.
“The love and support that everybody has shown is amazing, even from people that we don't know,” said Suiker’s daughter, Meghan.
Suiker has called U-Haul to clarify whether the contents of the truck were insured, but he says he’s had a difficult time getting a clear answer.
