Dramatic new witness video shows police arresting a suspect on a busy highway in B.C. after police rammed a car speeding in the wrong direction that resulted in a two-car collision.

A grey Honda Civic was travelling west in the eastbound lanes of Highway 1 on Thursday evening before an unmarked police vehicle rammed the car into a concrete barrier to stop it, according to witness Jay Thandi. Police drove into the car a second time to ensure the vehicle was stopped, he told CTV Vancouver on Sunday.

Thandi’s friend sitting in the passenger seat began recording the aftermath of the collision. In the video, a police officer can be seen slashing the Honda’s tires to make sure it can’t drive away while another officer drags a woman out of the driver’s seat.

"It was out of a movie,” Thandi recalled. "He threw her on the ground and you could just hear her screaming and stuff."

The car was seen driving the wrong way for several kilometres on Highway 1 and crossing over the Port Mann Bridge from Surrey, B.C. to Coquitlam before police intervened.

One vehicle swerved out of the way of the oncoming Honda Civic and crashed into another car. The driver in the first vehicle sustained minor injuries while the occupants in the second car were unhurt.

Police still don’t know why the 47-year-old woman was driving in the wrong direction. No charges have been laid in connection with the incident.
