A swimmer who was looking to become the first deaf person to swim across Lake Ontario has ended her attempt due to rough conditions.

Brenda Lussier was making her third attempt to cross the lake, after her previous two attempts were thwarted by injury and tough conditions.

Lussier had been planning the attempt to help raise money to combat cystic fibrosis, which her brother suffers from.

The swim, dubbed the "Silent Swim to Fight Cystic Fibrosis," has raised money to help find a cure.

In a Facebook post, Lussier's team wrote that she "swam so well against stiff and unrelenting swells and chop up to 1 (metre), but at 21km our swim master had to make the difficult call," wrote Loren King.

Lussier previously swam across Lake Erie.
