HALIFAX -- A Vancouver man is facing charges after he allegedly disrupted a flight bound for England, forcing it to make an unexpected landing in Halifax.

RCMP say officers received a call Tuesday around 4:20 a.m. about an incident on board Air Canada Flight 854, which was travelling from Vancouver to London's Heathrow Airport.

Police say witnesses told police that a 51-year-old man on the flight left his seat and was throwing water on passengers and crew members.

The man is also accused of uttering threats to the flight staff and refusing to return to his seat.

Stanislav Kalmin has been charged with endangering the safety of an aircraft, assault with a weapon and mischief.

He was remanded into custody after undergoing a mental health assessment at a Halifax hospital.
