Ottawa police say they will not lay charges after a startling confrontation captured on video, in which a driver can be seen using his vehicle to push a cyclist at an intersection.
The video shows a man on a bike and another man in a grey car arguing with each other at a busy intersection in Ottawa, where bike lanes run alongside vehicle lanes. The cyclist is standing in front of the car with his bike perpendicular to the vehicle. The vehicle can be seen moving forward, forcing the cyclist back.
It's unclear how the argument started, but witnesses say it quickly intensified, with the driver eventually pushing the cyclist through the intersection, before getting out of his car and throwing the cyclist's bike onto the curb.
Ottawa city councillor Jeff Leiper says the incident, which occurred on Thursday, is an example of abnormal and inappropriate behaviour.
"It does not matter what happened before the camera started rolling," Coun. Leiper told CTV Ottawa on Sunday. "It is never acceptable to wield a 2,500-pound vehicle against a person."
Ottawa police were called to the scene, but no charges were laid.
