A trend taking hold at Tim Hortons coffee shops across the country has some unsuspecting patrons receiving a dose of kindness with their Timmy’s fix.

"I went to the checkout and the woman told me my coffee was paid for from the vehicle ahead of me," David Dorion told CTV News, after making a run through a Tim Hortons drive-thru in the Ottawa area.

"I think that's amazing that other people are willing to do that for someone behind them without even knowing who they are."

This simple practice of kindness has been deemed "pouring it forward." To take part, a patron at a Tim Hortons drive-thru pays for their order, and at the same time leaves some money to pay for the coffee of the car behind them.

When the next driver pulls up, they are told that their coffee was paid for by the car ahead of them. The driver can choose to accept the gift and move on, or decide to continue to “pour it forward.”

"At a restaurant in Winnipeg, there was 228 orders. That means it happened 228 times through our drive-thru. That went on for three hours. It was amazing," Tim Hortons spokeswoman Nadia MacDonald told CTV News.

At one Ottawa-area Tim Hortons, "pouring it forward" seems to happen every day, employee Melissa Larocque told CTV News.

"We'll get people who will pay for the person behind them, and then it usually continues. It’ll continue for about two, three cars," Larocque said.
