A Canadian teacher detained in Indonesia will face at least another 30 days in jail, his brother said Thursday.

Neil Bantleman, 45, has been in police custody in the capital of Jakarta for nearly two months. He was arrested during a police investigation into the alleged sexual assault of three kindergarten students at the Jakarta International School, where he is a teacher.

Six custodians have been detained in connection with the alleged assault of one of the students.

Bantleman “was handed his papers” that informed him of the extension on Thursday, the same day he had a meeting with Canada’s ambassador to Indonesia, according to his brother Guy.

Thursday marked Bantleman’s 60th day in jail, the longest he could be held without charge, according to Indonesian law.

Bantleman has said that he and a colleague with whom he was arrested are innocent and have been “wrongfully accused” of crimes “in which we took no part.”
