The Department of Foreign Affairs has confirmed that a Canadian man has been killed in Mexico.

Regina businessman Duane Joseph Lang, 46, died in Puerto Vallarta on July 28.

There have been reports that he was a victim of homicide.

The department released this statement Saturday:

“Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the Canadian citizen who was killed in Mexico.

“The Canadian Embassy in Mexico City and the Canadian Consular Agency in Puerto Vallarta are in contact with local authorities to gather additional information.

“Consular officials stand ready to provide consular services to the family in Canada.”

Lang, who worked at Lang Insurance Ltd. in the Saskatchewan capital with his father and sister, was found dead on July 28, according to the Globe and Mail.

An obituary posted on the website of the Regina Leader Post newspaper said Lang became a full business partner at the insurance company in 1985 and had worked there for 25 years.

The obituary also said that he had enjoyed many visits to Mexico over the years.
