CALGARY -- Charges have been laid against four people in Calgary who are accused of rolling back the odometers of high-mileage vehicles and reselling them to unsuspecting buyers.

Police say at least 15 customers purchased what they thought were safe, low-mileage vehicles, only to discover they had 50 to 70 per cent more kilometres than advertised and needed repairs.

They allege that a common-law couple started the rollback operation in June 2013, while two brothers joined them in April of this year.

They also say that several items, including odometer rollback devices, bear spray and thousands of dollars in cash, were found during a search of a northwest Calgary home on Aug. 6.

Fraud charges have been laid against Damian Funk, who is 25, and a 27-year-old woman, Stephanie Degner.

Two men in their 30s, Jonathan Yardley and Ashley Yardley, have also been arrested.

Police say their investigation continues and further charges are expected.
