Patrons of Vancouver's popular cat café received some good news Friday, when the business reopened its doors after getting its paws on some new resident cats.
The coffee shop, named Catfé, has an arrangement with the B.C. SPCA that sees it temporarily house cats with the goal of eventually finding them new homes.
But the business was forced to close its doors early last week after an overwhelming amount of adoptions in its first three weeks of operation had left it with a shortage of cats.
Catfé's owner Michelle Furbacher told CTV Vancouver that the shop, where feline-lovers can curl up with some furry friends while enjoying a warm beverage, is "back in business" after acquiring nine new cats.
"It feels pretty good, because at the end of the day when we have more cats here, the cats are happier too,” Furbacher said. "When we only have one or two, everyone is vying for their attention and it's just too stressful for the cats.”
So far, Catfe's arrangement with the SPCA has led to the adoption of 11 cats.
Furbacher said that poor weather and road closures during the holidays delayed the delivery of new cats.
