A Victoria woman who was being kept on life support until her son could be safely delivered has died after her baby was born on Saturday.

In a Facebook post, Dylan Benson announced the birth of his son, Iver Cohen Benson, and the death of his wife, Robyn.

Benson made the announcement “with a heavy heart,” saying that Iver, who was delivered on Saturday evening, is healthy.

The family then said goodbye to Robyn on Sunday, Benson wrote.

“I miss Robyn more than words can explain. I could not be more impressed with her strength, and I am so lucky to have known her. She will live on forever within Iver, and in my heart,” he wrote.

Robyn had collapsed at home from a brain hemorrhage in late December. She was five months pregnant at the time and doctors told Benson that the damage to her brain was irreversible, but they could try to save the couple’s unborn child.

A decision was made to keep Robyn on a ventilator until the baby grew big enough to be safely delivered by C-section.

The family’s story touched many people across the country after Benson wrote about his heart-wrenching situation online. Donations from strangers have been pouring in to help Benson care for his son as a single father.

As of Monday evening, more than $144,000 had been donated to the Baby Iver Fund.
