Thanks to her ninja-like reflexes, a B.C. woman managed to take down a scorpion this weekend.

Victoria resident Christy Smith said she had just unpacked her groceries and was preparing to make a smoothie when she noticed the scorpion stuck to a sticker on a pack of organic Del Monte bananas.

And that's when her killer instincts kicked in.

"I peeled off the sticker and I just saw moving legs, and of course I freaked out (and) I tried to karate chop it," Smith told CTV Vancouver Island.

"It was just like a split-second ninja reflex."

Smith said she was worried the scorpion was poisonous, but she wasn’t stung in the showdown.

She picked up the bananas from a local Thrifty Foods store in Victoria, which has apologized for the incident. The company also gave Smith a refund and a $25 gift card.

A spokesperson for Thrifty Foods said that tropical fruit is always thoroughly washed when it arrives, but sometimes stowaway insects remain.
