A civilian-led police watchdog body is investigating after the RCMP officers fired shots after coming across a robbery at a 7-Eleven store in Burnaby, B.C.
In a statement released Sunday, Burnaby RCMP said officers attempted to arrest suspects after coming across the robbery early Sunday morning at a 7-Eleven located near Canada Way and Edmonds Street.
Their police car was rammed and the suspects attempted to flee the scene in their vehicle.
Shots were fired, and the suspects' vehicle eventually crashed near the intersection of Canada Away and Rosewood Avenue, police said.
Officers eventually used a police dog to track down one of the suspects, who was taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries. A second person of interest was also located.
No RCMP officers or members of the public were injured during the course of the incident, and the Independent Investigations Office of B.C. (IIO BC) is now probing the events.
Anyone with any information about the incident is asked to contact the office. Meanwhile, the RCMP will continue its investigation into the robbery.
