Police in Abbotsford, B.C. are searching for a man who was seen picking up a young girl lying on the side of the road and carrying her into a wooded area.

A driver called police after seeing the incident near Enterprise Avenue and McCallum Road at about 6:20 p.m. Tuesday night. The driver said he was concerned because the girl, believed to be between six and 10 years old, didn't look like she was moving.

Abbotsford police and a search and rescue crew are now looking for the man and the girl.

The man is described as white, in his 40s, with curly brown hair, wearing a dark jean jacket and jeans.

The girl was described as wearing a pink jacket.

Other witnesses reported seeing the pair together earlier in the day, and said the girl did not appear to be in distress. Police think the man and the girl may be related.

Const. Ian MacDonald told CTV Vancouver that officers are appealing for the public's help to locate the two.

"At this point, even with dog tracks, we haven't picked up a scent. We haven't located the two individuals in the area," he said. "Anyone who was in that area or anyone who can help tell that story needs to call Abbotsford police."

Anyone with information about this case can call police at 604-859-5225.
