Emergency crews in Surrey, B.C. are having a tough time deciding what to do after realizing that, if they remove a limousine that crashed into a house, the whole building could collapse.

The Ford SUV limousine barreled through a wall of the house just after 3 a.m. on Saturday, and came to rest facing the opposite direction it had been travelling on the road.

The crash caused extensive damage to the home and sent the driver to hospital. He is expected to recover.

The impact caused a wall at the front of the house to collapse, exposing the kitchen. The limo remains embedded in the house wall, with Surrey police saying they’re not sure when it will be removed.

"It looks like the limousine is actually supporting the structure right now, so there is a possibility that the house may collapse, or partially collapse, when it's removed," Sgt. MacDonald told CTV News.

The family that lives in the house was woken by the crash. They did not want to be interviewed on camera by CTV Vancouver but they say that while they are shaken, everyone in their family is accounted for.

For now, the family is staying with relatives.

Police are investigating what caused the crash, interviewing witnesses and reviewing video from the area.

CTV News cameras noticed a box of alcoholic beverages was visible through the limo's open door, and cans and an empty cognac bottle were strewn about the seating area.

It is illegal for both drivers and passengers to drink alcohol in any motor vehicle in B.C..
