A one-day-old baby who was taken from a hospital in Trois-Rivieres, Que., has been located unharmed.
Police said a woman dressed as a nurse entered Ville-Marie hospital Monday night and took a baby wrapped in a blue blanket.
Witnesses said there was a "frantic moment" just after the woman walked out of the hospital room with the baby, CTV News' Montreal Bureau Chief Genevieve Beauchemin said.
The woman then drove away in a red Toyota Yaris with a “Baby on Board” sign.
The abduction prompted an Amber Alert at about 7 p.m. Monday night that lasted for three hours.
A suspect in the abduction, a woman in her 30s, was arrested at her home and is due in court on Tuesday.
Sgt. Joyce Kemp, from the Quebec provincial police, said the baby is doing well.
"The suspect was found at her home safe with the baby, the baby is safe and sound, and the woman has been arrested," Kemp said.
Beauchemin said that the baby was located relatively quickly, thanks in part to the amber alert and social media.
"It was really a story of the social media machine getting into working order, because after the amber alert was issued it was just passed around everywhere," she said.
Officials from the hospital said they will look into the incident to try and understand how the baby could have been taken.
