Police in northwestern Alberta have found a seven-month-old infant girl after the truck she was in was stolen outside of a home in Grand Prairie, Alta.
RCMP confirmed that the child was found safe on Tuesday afternoon.
In a news release, RCMP said at around 3 p.m. local time it received a call from a resident who lives south of Grande Prairie reporting that an infant was left in its car seat on the porch of his residence.
“EMS and RCMP attended and have confirmed that it was the abducted infant and it appears the infant is uninjured but as the precaution she will be taken to a local area hospital for further examination,” the news release said.
The truck had been stolen between 12:30 p.m. and 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, police said.
RCMP Cpl. Roy Kennedy said police believe the driver of the vehicle had left the car running with the child inside.
"It is not a parental abduction," Kennedy told the Canadian Press on Tuesday. "It looks like a random person tried to take advantage of a situation, possibly a vehicle running very momentarily.”
