The mother of a Port Coquitlam, B.C., teen who died by suicide after she was taunted online is pleading for the return of a stolen memorial garden stone.

Carol Todd said she planted a tree in memory of her daughter, Amanda Todd, and placed a decorative stone on the earth beneath it with the words “a beautiful soul is never forgotten,” etched onto the surface.

“Over the past two-and-a-half years I’ve seen that plaque and I’ve watched the tree grow and it has become a part of my life,” Todd told CTV News Channel.

Todd said a friend informed her the stone wasn’t there after she recently returned from six weeks spent travelling and speaking about Amanda’s death, which happened in 2012 when she was only 15.

“I’m not going to report it to police because I’m hoping someone will return it and replace it no questions asked,” Todd added.

She said that a stonework company has offered to make a free replacement if needed.

Although she was saddened that the stone went missing, Todd said she was uplifted by the kind words expressed on social media after it disappeared.

In fact, the kind reactions reminded her of Amanda, she said.

“That in itself is Amanda’s legacy. All she wanted was for people to be kinder and treat each other better.”
