An Alberta couple had almost 31 million new reasons to be thankful over the Thanksgiving weekend, but kept it all a secret.

Wade and Joan Lidkea won $30.8 million in the Oct. 10 Lotto Max draw.

"The first thing you do is go 'Wow, what do I do now?'" Wade told reporters at the jackpot presentation Thursday. Wade joked that, when Joan initially told him they had all the winning numbers, he told her she must be reading them wrong.

The couple then went to the grocery store to double check.

"I don't know who was more nervous: me, sweating in my hand holding the ticket, or the guy who validated it," Joan told reporters.

Despite their windfall, the couple didn't tell any of their family or friends during the Thanksgiving holiday. They said that has been the hardest part to winning.

When asked if they have any immediate plans, Joan quickly listed a new motorhome and a vacation somewhere warm.

As for long-term plans, Wade said they haven't made any because the money isn't in the bank, yet.

"You can't spend what you don't have so we really haven't planned anything," he said.

The Lidkeas are the latest lucky winners in Alberta, a province where 38 jackpots worth more than $172 million have been awarded so far this year.
