A plane carrying more than 200 passengers has safely made an emergency landing in Belfast, Air Canada confirmed Saturday.

Flight AC825 was en route from Amsterdam to Toronto when the captain diverted the flight.

There was no immediate sign of a problem when the Boeing 767 landed in the U.K., a spokesperson from Belfast International Airport said.

However, the spokesperson said, it is possible the pilot sensed something was wrong with the controls or in the galley.

According to Air Canada, an "unusual odour" was detected in the galley, prompting the landing.

Crews are now looking into what might have gone wrong, and checking the aircraft for anything out of the ordinary.
