MONTREAL - Richard Henry Bain's first-degree murder trial has been suspended until Friday morning after the judge told jurors the accused was not alert during parts of today's testimony.

Justice Guy Cournoyer told the 14 jurors that Bain was obviously not paying attention as he has normally during the first 28 days of his trial.

The accused was seen lowering his head and closing his eyes during parts of the testimony of the Crown's expert witness, forensic psychiatrist Joel Watts.

Cournoyer asked that Bain return to the detention centre and get a good night's sleep.

Bain has pleaded not guilty to one count of first-degree murder, three counts of attempted murder and two arson-related charges in connection with the shooting outside the Metropolis nightclub in Montreal on Sept. 4, 2012.
