NORTH LAKE, N.B. - A fire chief says about 20 dogs died in a fire Saturday that gutted a home and dog breeding business in western New Brunswick.

Chief Roy Acott of the North Lake Fire Department says the woman who ran the business told him there were adult dogs and puppies in the house.

A family of three, a woman and her two adult sons, escaped unhurt but Acott says the home was destroyed.

The Red Cross says it has arranged emergency lodging for the family.

Acott says it is believed the fire started in the kitchen and has been ruled accidental.
