MALLORYTOWN, Ont. -- Police say 12 people have been rushed to hospital after a pileup on Highway 401 in eastern Ontario that saw a double-decker bus roll over.

Provincial police say the collisions started Saturday morning when a car hit some snow and lost control on a stretch of the highway in Mallorytown, hitting a light standard then ending up in the ditch.

Some six other vehicles also lost control and a passenger bus slammed into them before rolling onto its side.

Police say paramedics took 11 of the 49 people on the bus to Brockville General Hospital along with a driver of one of the other vehicles.

Their injuries are not considered to be life-threatening.

The eastbound lanes of the highway have been reopened and police are investigating.
