Traffic on the Trans-Canada Highway west of Calgary was backed up Thursday because of a van catching fire. Just after 6 p.m., a van burst into flames on the eastbound lanes near Cochrane. RCMP told CTV the driver managed to pull over onto the shoulder, and everyone got out safely before it caught fire. The heavy smoke and flames forced drivers to slow down. The van is believed to have had mechanical issues. The highway was fully reopened a couple hours later.
