OTTAWA - Statistics Canada says wholesale sales fell for the second month in a row in February, dropping 0.4 per cent to $53.6 billion.

The federal agency says that's the lowest level in six months.

Sales were down 0.7 per cent in volume terms.

Statistics Canada says sales were down in three of seven subsectors, accounting for 51 per cent of wholesale sales.

The biggest drop in dollar terms came in the building material and supplies subsector, which was down 2.7 per cent to $7.4 billion -- its lowest level since May 2014.

Wholesale sales were down in four provinces in February -- representing 79 per cent of total sales -- with Ontario accounting for most of the decrease.
