LONDON -- Britain's unemployment rate fell to 8.1 per cent in the three months through July, compared to 8.2 per cent in the previous three months as the number of part-time workers hit a record high.
The Office for National Statistics said Wednesday that the number of part-time workers rose by 134,000 compared to the previous quarter to 8.1 million, the highest since the current record series began in 1992.
The agency said the number of full-time workers also rose by 102,000 to 21.4 million.
The figures also show that the number of people with full-time jobs is down by 640,000 from the pre-recession peak in March-May 2008, while the number of part-time workers has increased by 628,000.
