OTTAWA -- The Conference Board of Canada suggests short-term expectations for housing starts in the country's big cities have improved this month.
The board says 14 of the 28 metropolitan areas covered have positive short-term expectations this month, two more than last month.
The areas with the biggest year-over-year increase in housing starts in October were the Quebec cities of Trois-Rivieres, Quebec, and Sherbrooke as well as Regina and Moncton, N.B.
Thunder Bay had the largest year-over-year decrease in housing starts.
For the long term, 15 of the 28 cities tracked by the economics think-tank have positive expectations.
The short-term expectations are based on residential permits data, while the long-term expectations are based on demographic requirements.
