BERWICK, Pa. - Described as an artifact synonymous with Canadian culture, a curved piece of maple purported to be the world's oldest hockey stick is up for sale on eBay.

The stick is believed to be about 180 years old.

The owner, Mark Presley of Berwick, N.S., says he bought the stick in 2008 for $1,000.

Presley has not had the stick formally appraised.

However, bidding on the online auction site reached $10,100 by early Friday.

Presley says he bought the stick from a retired barber in North Sydney, who had displayed it in his shop for over 30 years.
