ST. JOHN'S, N.L. - Newfoundland and Labrador's offshore energy regulator announced Friday that it has laid charges in connection to a 2013 crude oil spill from the Hibernia platform.
The Canada-Newfoundland and Labrador Offshore Petroleum Board says the Hibernia Management and Development Company faces four charges in relation to the spill.
The board says a 10-litre leak was reported in December 2013, and that another 6,000 litres of crude was spilled before the leak was stopped in January 2014.
The regulator says Hibernia failed to fully report details of the leak and failed to take preventative measures to avoid another spill.
In an emailed statement on Friday, Hibernia says it "regrets this discharge" and will review the board's charges before proceeding.
At the time, the company said no wildlife was seen in the affected area.
