TORONTO -- Five things to watch for in the Canadian business world in the coming week:

Climate confab: Federal Environment Minister Catherine McKenna has a busy week ahead. On Monday, she will be in Montreal alongside her Quebec counterpart to announce a new phase of a federal-provincial plan to protect the St. Lawrence River. The next day she is in Charlottetown to host the American and Mexican environmental ministers for a two-day meeting, which comes as Canada and the U.S. are forging divergent paths on climate change.

Bank talk: Bank of Canada governor Stephen Poloz will be in Sintra, Portugal, on Wednesday as part of a panel at the European Central Bank's forum on central banking. Business cycles, growth and macroeconomic policy will be discussed.

Back from the brink:Two months ago, troubles at Home Capital Group sparked fears that other Canadian mortgage lenders could be caught in a similar cash squeeze. Since then, it has addressed many problems and earned the trust of one of the world's most famous investors. Its annual meeting will be Thursday in Toronto. Just don't pass the champagne yet.

Economic tonic: Statistics Canada releases the gross domestic product figures for April on Friday. The numbers will be one of the last batches of data the Bank of Canada will weigh before its interest rate announcement on July 12.

The bottom line: Corporate earnings will be dribbling in this week. Shaw Communications and Canopy Growth will be among the companies to watch.
