WATERLOO, Ont. -- BlackBerry revealed its latest security offering on Thursday intended to help companies reliably manage their current and future connectivity needs.

The company's new platform, BlackBerry Secure, is designed to help businesses keep tabs on all their devices to transmit sensitive data to keep people, information and goods safe.

It builds on BlackBerry's current offerings and integrates all of the company's recent acquisitions, including Good Technology and WatchDox, into one platform.

CEO John Chen said in a statement that the platform is compatible with BlackBerry's current products and third-party software, and will work with future applications and cloud-based systems.

BlackBerry (TSX:BB), once a leader in smartphone hardware development, recently abandoned the hardware business to shift focus to its more profitable software operations.

BlackBerry Secure will be available in January 2017.
