EDMONTON -- Alberta's labour minister says more than $20 million has been committed for training under the Canada-Alberta job grant.

Christina Gray says more than 5,700 applications have been approved for more than 2,400 employers.

Gray made the announcement in an update of the joint program, which was launched in October 2014.

Since then, more than 11,000 training courses have been approved for programs such as project and risk management and health and safety.

The program allows employers to tailor their training programs for current or prospective employees.

Employers cover one-third of the costs while government contributes the rest to a maximum of $10,000 per trainee.
