Fire crews said what started as a vehicle fire, spread to a garage fire resulting in $300,000 worth of damage on Sunday in Midhurst. Springwater Fire said they got a call for a reported vehicle fire shortly after 11 p.m. on Sunday. Deputy Fire Chief Jeff French told CTV News, more reports were coming in saying a garage was on fire. When crews arrived on scene, they said flames were coming out of the roof of the garage area. Fire officials were able to have everyone exit safely with no injuries to occupants or firefighters. Officials confirmed the blaze originated from the vehicle due to an electrical issue, which then spread to the garage. French also noted due to the heavy accumulation of snow, the fire hydrant was buried in snow. Luckily, residents were digging out the hydrant so crews could focus more on the fire, but Springwater Fire wants to remind the public if they have a hydrant on their property, to clear that area of snow in case of a fire emergency like this one.
