Northbound lanes along Highway 400 were closed late Tuesday night after a transport truck caught fire near the 6th Line in Innisfil. Innisfil Fire Chief Brent Thomas told CTV News that the incident happened shortly before midnight. The driver was able to disconnect the trailer, but the tractor became fully involved in the heavy flames. Emergency crews were forced to shut down part of the highway after water and foam used to extinguish the blaze created extremely icy conditions across all lanes. No injuries were reported in the midst. Thomas says road salters were called in and a heavy tow truck was used to remove the wreckage. The highway was cleared just after midnight and left in the hands of provincial police. Cleanup along the right shoulder is expected to take place Wednesday morning, according to officials. Police say the investigation into the cause of the fire remains ongoing.
