A blaze tore through part of a Midland marina over the weekend, lighting up the waterfront and leaving roughly $500,000 in damage behind. The fire erupted at the docks along on Ogden’s Beach Road around 5:30 p.m. on Sunday, quickly pulling firefighters from the Tay Fire Department into a tense race to keep the flames from spreading. Tay Fire Chief Shawn Aymer told CTV News Wednesday morning that five boats were destroyed at Wye Heritage Marina. Despite the intensity, firefighters managed to stop the fire from reaching any nearby structures at the marina. The fire chief said that staff at the marina will be taking the lead on its recovery efforts, adding that investigators traced the cause to an electrical failure. Ontario Provincial Police confirmed that the fire was not deemed suspicious.
