The Volkswagen Arteon is set to sit above the company's current flagship sedan, the Passat when it officially launches at this year's Geneva Motor Show.

Alongside SUVs, luxury coupés and coupé-styled sedans -- i.e., fastbacks -- are very much in vogue with the car-buying public. And with the Arteon, VW is promising a car that will combine comfort, practicality and cutting-edge active safety tech.

And while the company isn't prepared to go into specifics until the car's official reveal on March 7, it has said that many of the Arteon's features, particularly its semi-autonomous tech, have until now been the preserve of luxury car manufacturers.

The 2017 Geneva motor show opens to journalists on March 7 and to the public from March 9.
