Further expanding its offering, Mercedes-Benz debuted the coupe version of its GLC crossover and two other new cars at the New York auto show late March.

GLC-Class Coupe

Pioneered many moons ago by BMW, the SUV-coupe has become a popular model variant and by the looks of things, Mercedes-Benz is producing the most attractive tall four-door coupes available today. An inch-and-a-half shorter and over three inches longer than the GLC crossover, the GLC Coupe is designed to appeal to a growing group of buyers. If the GLC name is unfamiliar to you, this crossover is the replacement for the boxy and venerable GLK, and the GLC Coupe sacrifices some utility for style. While the sloping roofline may be the stylish choice, rear cargo room is significantly compromised, although the reality is that crossovers are found more often at the shopping mall than the home improvement store. In addition, the roofline is shorter than the conventional GLC, and taller drivers should be aware that headroom, as well as ingress and egress, is not the best, or at least not as good as in the non-Coupe GLC. The design also eschews the rear window wiper given the notion that the aerodynamics of the Coupe’s roofline keeps the rear window clear.

The popular model will be the 241-horsepower GLC300 4MATIC coupe, and for the enthusiasts, there will also be a Mercedes-AMG GLC 43 4MATIC in the near future, which uses a twin-turbo V6 that produces 367 horsepower and promises a sub-five second zero-to-100 km/h time. The Mercedes-Benz GLC300 4MATIC coupe arrives later in 2016.

Mercedes-AMG C63 Cabriolet

In addition to the GLC Coupe, the company also debuted the Mercedes-AMG C63 Cabriolet. The sedan version of the C63 is already one of our favourite performance four-doors, but the idea of a 510-horsepower, two-door cabrio is ridiculously appealing. Available in standard (476 hp) and S (510 hp) specifications, the C63 Cabriolet makes the best sounds in the category, something AMG knows how to do properly. Unlike its direct competitor, the BMW M4, the AMG uses a fabric top which keeps to a minimum the additional weight of the roof and its mechanisms. With its modern hot-rod performance and brilliant sounds from the twin-turbo V8, the C63 Cabriolet is a convertible that will be a joy to drive.

Mercedes-AMG E43 4MATIC

Finally, Mercedes-Benz debuted the first performance variant of the all-new E-Class sedan, the Mercedes-AMG E43 4MATIC. Slotted under the upcoming E63, the E43 is powered by a 401-horsepower, 3.0-litre twin-turbo V6 mated to a nine-speed automatic and a rear-biased all-wheel-drive system. Still a formidable performer, the E43 gives Mercedes-AMG customers the opportunity to put an AMG in their garage at a price point significantly lower than the twin-turbo-V8-powered Autobahn-killing E63 sedan
