A large fire has destroyed a home in Nova Scotia’s Kings County. The fire broke out at the large Victorian home on Highway 1 in Hants Border around 1 p.m. About a dozen local fire departments responded to the scene. In the end, an excavator was brought in and took down what was left of the structure. There is no word on the cause of the fire. No injuries were reported. Heritage Trust reacts The Heritage Trust of Nova Scotia says the loss of the building is “distressing.” “The J. B. North Manor was one of several Hantsport mansions built when that community was a major centre of shipbuilding in the Age of Sail,” it said in a post on Facebook. John Burton North ran his shipyard from 1864 to 1894. He was also a politician. North died in Hantsport in 1907.
