A barn in Middle Musquodoboit, N.S., has been destroyed by fire. Halifax Fire says the call came in shortly after 6:30 p.m. Sunday for a barn fire on Exhibition Grounds Road. No people or animals were harmed. Firefighters were back on scene Monday morning to put out hot spots while awaiting the arrival of an excavator. The excavator arrived in the afternoon to sift through the rubble and prevent any further flare-ups. “When the building is a total loss like that, it’s going to take them a while to sift through the rubble to try to determine the cause,” says Div. Chief Robert Hebb of Halifax Regional Fire & Emergency. “We have investigators on site now and will likely be there for a day or two to try to sort out a cause and figure out what transpired there.” The building was used for storage. In all, about 40 firefighters were called to the scene, including from several nearby volunteer departments. “In rural firefighting, we do need water supply,” he says. “The only way to get it for larger fires like that is by the use of multiple tankers.
