1. Soldier killed: A training accident at Canadian Forces Base Wainwright in eastern Alberta has left one soldier dead and three others injured. Sgt. Robert J. Dynerowicz from the Royal Canadian Dragoons, based at CFB Petawawa in Ontario, died when a light-armoured vehicle rolled over.

2. Lumber uncertainty: U.S. President Donald Trump’s new tariffs on softwood lumber are already echoing across Canada’s forestry industry, as companies prepare for a financial hit. Canada’s trade minister, meanwhile, says selling more lumber to China could be the solution.

3. Pie shell recall: Due to concerns over E. coli contamination, the Canadian Food Inspection Agency is recalling several brands of pie and tart shells. The shells, produced by Edmonton-based Harlan Bakeries, are sold under the Great Value, Apple Valley, Western Family and No Name brands.

4. Televised debate: Party leaders in British Columbia face off tonight. The televised debate comes after a radio debate that featured a heated argument between Liberal Leader Christy Clark and her NDP rival John Horgan.
