Here's your daily dose of five things to know: Two people are dead after a shooting at a Florida nightclub; a failed asylum seeker blew himself up and injured 12 people in Germany; Democrats gather in Philadelphia for their party’s national convention; a Canadian researcher is proposing a new screening tool to diagnose dementia at the earliest stage yet; and a New York man says he’s the first person to catch all 142 monsters currently available in Pokemon Go.

Plus, for Money Monday, we take a look at the pros and cons of fees versus commissions when it comes to paying for financial advice.

1. Florida shooting: Authorities say two people are dead after as many as 17 people were shot at a nightclub in Fort Myers, Florida early Monday morning.

2. Another attack in Germany. A man blew himself up and injured 12 people after being turned away from an open-air music festival in Ansbach, Germany on Sunday. Authorities said he was a 27-year-old Syrian who had been denied asylum.

3. DNC kicks off: The spotlight is on Hillary Clinton as the Democratic Party Convention gets underway in Philadelphia. Here is a list of things to keep an eye on as the four-day meeting gets underway.

4. Dementia checklist: A Canadian researcher is proposing a different way of diagnosing dementia at the earliest stage yet, using a detailed checklist to note changes in patients’ behaviour. The checklist and the research behind it were presented Sunday at the Alzheimer’s Association International Conference in Toronto.

5. 'Catch em' all': A New York man says he’s the first person to catch all 142 Pokemon currently available in Nintendo’s hit smartphone game, Pokemon Go. Nick Johnson walked nearly 13 kilometres around New York City each day in search of elusive monsters.

And one more thing for Money Monday: If you’re paying for financial advice, the choice between a fee-based adviser or one who gets paid through a commission can be a difficult one. Here’s some expert advice about the pros and cons of each.
