1. DNC wraps up: Hillary Clinton has become the first woman to formally accept the Democratic presidential nomination. Clinton capped off the Democratic National Convention in Philadelphia on Thursday with a passionate speech promising steady leadership while challenging Republican rival Donald Trump’s ability to lead the country.

2. Funeral today: A funeral is being held today for the Ottawa man who died after a physical confrontation with police last Sunday. Abdirahman Abdi was taken down by officers on a sidewalk after police say they received reports of "multiple assaults" at a local business.

3. Mourning: A northern Alberta community is mourning the death of two teens. RCMP say the deaths don't appear to be random acts and the killer or killers appear to have known the victims.

4. Meteor shower: Astronomy enthusiasts will get a rare opportunity to spot a shooting star thanks to what scientists call scientists call cosmic “outbursts” during an annual meteor shower. The Perseid meteor shower has been observed since ancient history and is expected to arrive this year in late July and peak on August 11 to 12.

5. Fort McMurray impact: Statistics Canada is expected to give a glimpse of the economic impact of the Fort McMurray wildfires with the release of GDP figures from May today.
