Here are the five things you need to know this Wednesday: a historic result in the Alberta election as the Progressive Conservative dynasty comes to an end; an interim report on the Germanwings crash will be released today; despite a recent death, tourists are still flocking to Peggy’s Cove and taking chances; a quick kiss at the Boston Marathon has an embarrassing ending; and one B.C. landlord is digging into a stinky situation for a four-legged culprit.

Plus, today we're bringing all you need to know about the tulip festival for “Dream Big Wednesday”.

1. Alberta election: NDP Leader Rachel Notley has managed to end the 44-year reign of the Progressive Conservatives and secure her party’s first ever election win. It’s a stunning downfall for the PCs, who find themselves knocked down to third place, with the Wildrose forming the official opposition.

2. Report release: French investigators say the co-pilot of a Germanwings plane that crashed and killed 150 people had tried a controlled descent on a previous flight.

3. Dangerous sight: Less than two weeks after a 25-year-old Jamie Quattrocchi, of Smiths Falls, Ont., was swept into the Atlantic Ocean at Peggy's Cove, tourists are still taking chances, ignoring signs and venturing onto the slippery rocks close to shore. In light of the tragedy, Quattrochi's family and others have called for increased safety at the popular tourist destination.

4. Quick kiss: A Tennessee woman who was searching for the mystery man she kissed on a dare while running the Boston Marathon earlier this year says she finally heard back - from the man's wife. Barbara Tatge was challenged by her daughter to kiss a random, good-looking man and later reached out on social media to track him down.

5. Dirty deed: A B.C. landlord is demanding that dog owners who live in a Burnaby apartment building submit samples of their pet's excrement in order to sniff out the "poopetrator" who has been soiling the building's stairwell. In a letter sent to tenants, the landlord says that he will send out samples of the feces to a lab for DNA testing. Residents who do not comply have been threatened with an eviction.

And one more thing for Dream Big Wednesday…

We all know tulips for their origins in Holland, but did you know the flower with flair really came from the Ottoman Empire of the 1500s? We have more on the colourful history of Canada's biggest flower festival.
