Strapped for time but looking for a quick morning update? Well, we've got it.

Here are the 5 things you need to know this Tuesday: Albertans head to the polls and it could spell the end of a historical political dynasty; today is the deadline for income taxes; Prince Edward Island marked a historical first in its election; the government is fighting against Omar Khadr being granted bail; and a Toronto resident goes sightseeing with Ricky Gervais. Plus for “Tech Tuesday” we take a look at the photography apps you need to get your hands on.

1. Alberta votes: Albertans head to the polls today, as New Democrats and Wildrose hope to end the Progressive Conservatives’ decades-long political dynasty. Here are the key points in each party’s campaign platform.

2. Deadline: Today is the deadline to file your income taxes. The deadline was originally scheduled for April 30 but the Canadian Revenue Agency messed up, sending out conflicting dates.

3. P.E.I.’s premier: Voters in Prince Edward Island had their provincial election yesterday, and gave the Liberals their third majority government. Four of the ridings were decided by less than 100 votes. And in an historic first, the Green Party won their first seat on the Island.

4. Khadr's release: The federal government submitted a court filing on Monday night arguing that granting bail to former Guantanamo Bay prisoner Omar Khadr, while he appeals his war crimes conviction in the U.S., jeopardizes the entire system of international prisoner transfers. The claim is part of Ottawa's 11th-hour attempt to block Khadr's release from prison, which could come as early as tonight.

5. Joyride with Gervais: A Toronto resident had an "unbelievable" encounter with Ricky Gervais over the weekend. When the British comedian posted on Facebook that he was sight-seeing on the beaches of Lake Ontario, Kara Stahl set off to find the star. After getting a photo together, Stahl offered to give Gervais a ride because she couldn't find a taxi. "Unbelievable random act of kindness!" Gervais' partner Jane Fallon tweeted afterwards.
